Feb 01, 2013MULTI-PLATE Structures Carry US 35 Across Streams
When the West Virginia Department of Highways required a new roadway alignment of US 35, multiple stream crossings were needed. Four MULTI-PLATE® structures were chosen because of their ability to be buried, to handle hydraulic requirements underneath and fill requirements above. It was E.L. Robinson Engineering's experience and innovation that suggested the use of MULTI-PLATE® structures in the project's proposal, which led to time, material, and financial savings in the end.
“The structural plate alternatives were accepted by the WVDOH as part of a value engineering change proposal,” said Kevin White, P.E., Water Resources Group Manager with E.L. Robinson Engineering. “The structures provided the WVDOH with economical and structurally sound solutions for two stream crossings. Both the contractor and the WVDOH were able to share in the cost savings resulting from the use of the structural plate structures.”
