Mar 03, 2020ELR Columbus Sponsors Central Ohio ASCE STEM Expo

ELR has been sponsoring an activity for Central Ohio ASCE’s STEM Expo since 2016. Our go-to is the penny boat challenge. Students are given one foil rectangle for making boats. (This was the first year we had a student make an origami boat). The challenge is to see how many pennies they can put in the boat before it sinks. The highest count was 60 and the students really enjoyed competing with each other for floating the most pennies and tried out many different designs. Volunteers for 2020 were Scott Bing, Gus Darby and Benita Walter. The event was held at Worthington Kilbourne High School with three to four hundred students in attendance.
